Droit constitutionnel comparé (DRT3002/DRT6845)

This course is an introduction to comparative constitutional law and, more specifically, to the constitutional law of those legal systems which, as is the case of Canada, are mainly or partly based on the common law tradition. It is aimed at students who have already completed a basic coursework in constitutional law, and seeks to engage a reflection on the relevance of comparative analysis in the constitutional context. Emphasis is placed on the US and English legal systems, both of whose influence on the Canadian legal system has been strongest. Through a selection of leading cases and scholarly works in English and French, students will become familiar with comparative legal analysis and undertake a critical evaluation of the relevant aspects of the constitutional systems studied. This course is offered jointly to undergraduate and graduate law students. Research students at the Faculty of Law and from elsewhere at the University are welcome to attend.
